Advantages Of Owning A Hybrid Car

Introduction

How many times have you pulled up to the gas pump lately and felt morbid due to the ever-rising gasoline prices? Many of us have felt that way and it seems like relief at the pump is nowhere in sight, soon. Although fuel prices have dropped slightly, our wallets are still feeling the sting.

Due to the fluctuating gas prices, the auto industry has come up with a way for you to save some money, by inventing the hybrid car. There's no doubt that you have seen some type of hybrid car on the roads. With the rising popularity of the hybrid car, the auto industry is doing its part in reducing environmental hazard automobiles cause, and by reducing the pain you feel when watching the dollar amount rise on the gas pump.

How it works?

Besides the smaller and more efficient engine of the hybrid car, the car tends to get better mileage. There's actually a trick called 'regenerative braking' that allows the hybrid car to recover energy and store that energy in its battery. This method is used besides using the brakes to slow the car.

The hybrid car motor can also slow the car and when used in this way, the motor can act as a generator and charges the batteries while the car is slowing. Because a hybrid car has an electric motor and batteries to rely on when the gasoline engine is not in use - that is a great way to conserve fuel. It is not a bad idea to turn that gasoline engine off and sometimes rely on the electric motor.

Also, by reducing the drag force of the hybrid car by eliminating any disturbances protruding out from the car, can better the car's aero-dynamics. A good example of this is using covers over the wheel housings to smooth the airflow. In some cases, mirrors have been replaced with small cameras due to their smaller size. Reducing the overall weight of the hybrid car is another way to increase its efficiency.

Advantages

The best thing about owning a hybrid car is the fact that the motor and batteries do not require any maintenance throughout the life of the vehicle. The engine doesn't require any more maintenance than any other normal car. Also, due to regenerative braking, the brake pads may also last longer than the brakes in most other cars.

These cars come with excellent warranties that are better than those offered with most other cars. These are wonderful advantages to owning this type of car because not only are you saving money by not having to purchase as much fuel, but you are also contributing to the well being of the environment as well. Ownership of the hybrid car is thus increasing and it has become quite the affordable little car. It's exciting to see what the future holds for this breed of car.
